On Wednesday 20th March, a group of 30 students went to the Auckland Botanical Gardens for a science event - Eye On Nature. We all had a fantastic time. We got to do lots of exciting interesting activities.

Shopping Game.
The focus of the game was to match the items in our grocery bag to the real plant it comes from. We found this activity interesting because we had to identify what part of the plant we eat in that food: leaf, stem, fruit, seeds, root or tuber. We now know what a sugar cane plant looks like and that our fizzy drinks come from sugar cane.

Planting.
We were taught how to make a pot using newspaper. We thought it would be easy to make but it was actually quite tricky as we had to make sure we roll the newspaper tight to avoid making holes. We made 2 pots and we planted spinach and brocolli.

Sunhats.
We had fun making our buzzy bee sunhats. We were happy to make our sunhats as it was very hot.

Recycling.
We talked about all the different types of recycling that we can do at school and at home. Then the instructors got us to put the rubbish into their correct recycling bin. That was yukky but fun.

Bee Maze.
We enjoyed buzzing around in the maze looking for answers to our quiz on bees.

Bee exhibition.
We found this activity scary because there were lots of bees buzzing around us while we were listening to the instructor. At the end of the activity we got to taste some yummy honey.
